Dining Hall -Camp Comer has a centrally located Dining Hall with cafeteria or family style dining. The dining hall can comfortably seat 500 at one time. The camp is able to assemble, enter the dining hall, and all sit down in a short time. Troops are also able to checkout Ice Cream Freezers or Dutch Ovens with all the fixings for some delicious homemade ice cream or cobbler.
Camp Office - The Camp Office is located in central camp as a part of the Health lodge. It houses the administrative offices for the Camp Director. All mail will be delivered to the Camp Office as it arrives in camp, and all out-going mail will need to be dropped off here.
High-Tech Productions Science & Technology Center - This building is the site of our leaders lounge. The Coosa 50 Lodge Order of the Arrow has furnished this room for leaders to read their mail, newspapers or just cool off a bit. The High-Tech Productions Science & Technology Center is the location of our Humanities Department.
Health Lodge - The Health Lodge is located just across from the dining hall and adjacent to the Science & Technology Center. All Medical forms and medications are kept in this building for access and administration by the camp medic. The Medical Officer lives in the facility and is always available. However, the camp asks that all troops keep and utilize a troop First Aid kit in their sites to treat minor cuts and scrapes, as well as headaches and other minor ailments. On the side of this building there are two restrooms that are open for leaders.
Council Ring -The opening and closing campfires are all held in the Council Ring located on the shore of Lake Republic near the motorboat dock. It is also used for Vespers as well as the special Thursday Family Night and Order of the Arrow Campfire.
Trading Post - Camp Comer has a well-stocked trading post that is also located in main camp. It offers plenty of snack items, as well as camp souvenirs and general scouting and craft items. Scouts will be able to purchase their merit badge books at the trading post for use throughout the week. The trading post is set up in convenience store form. Batteries, stamps, flashlights, shirts, patches, craft items, and other general merchandise are all available here
Chapel - Our chapel is located on a hill overlooking the waters of Lake Republic. It provides a chance for scouts to experience something a little different and relaxing. Its peaceful and serene environment allow for a little quiet time. Please enjoy this facility on your own.
PROGRAM AREAS
-
Rappelling and Climbing Tower: The 50 foot structure is available during troop activity time. The Climbing Merit Badge is also taught here.
-
Shooting Sports: The Shooting Sports Ranges are located near each other and present a nice setting for shooting 12 and 20 gauge shotguns, .22 caliber rifles, and archery. This area is one of the busiest in camp, since all troops are given the opportunity to schedule shooting during troop activity time.
-
Waterfront: The Waterfront Area is located right on the shores of Lake Republic and Swimming, Sailing, Rowing, Motor boating, kayaking and Canoeing await you here. Leaders who have completed Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat may schedule aquatics activities in the afternoon. Fishing must be with a buddy and you must have the permission of your Scoutmaster. The fishing in Lake Republic is guaranteed to hook you.
-
COPE: The COPE course is located past the Archery Range. Both High and Low courses are included. Adults and Scouts over 13 may participate.
CAMPSITES - Each Campsite is equipped with a flagpole, trashcan, faucet, and latrine (Except Eagle and Falcon) with washbasin. On the side of the latrine is a bulletin board that the troop can use to post assignments, notices, and duty rosters. Camp Comer has two air-conditioned shower and restroom facilities for camp-wide use. Patrol sites are pre-established in each campsite. Most campsites have some Adarondaks that sleep four and tents on platforms that sleep two. Some sites may be occupied by more than one troop. Troops are encouraged to construct gateways to their campsites. The Hawk Campsite is a HANDICAPPED ONLY site, if you do not have a scout or leader that is handicapped that site will not be available.
